What is Myofascial Release?
How does Fascia cause Pain and how will Myofascial Release relieve my Pain? Fascia is a connective tissue in your body that is a whole body system. It has no beginning or end. It encases and encompasses everything in your body, skin, bones, blood vessels, nerves, ligaments, tendon, organs, etc. Fascia goes all the way down to the cellular level of our beings. Fascia can become bound down and change from a fluid like state in our bodies to adhesions that change our posture and limit our range of motion and functional mobility. Traumas such a surgeries, accidents, postural abnormalities, etc. can disrupt our facial system and cause these adhesions. These fascial adhesions can create forces and pressures on our nerves and joints that create pain and lead to a pain cycle of: muscle guarding (spasms), which leads to pain, which leads to more muscle guarding (spasms) and more pain. This is where Myofascial Release is used to treat the pain. Myofascial Release includes a postural assessment that allows us to visually see how your fascial system is adhered, we then check your skin mobility to determine how the adhesions are limiting motion and look at your joint mobility and alignment to correct these muscle imbalances and restore proper posturing to eliminate fascial adhesions/restrictions. This one on one hands-on technique shows very useful for eliminating pain from chronic holding patterns and postural abnormalities. Once your body has returned to its proper posturing we then are able to strengthen and maintain the correct alignment and eliminate pain.
